25 Years of Helping Nonprofits Thrive

Published Monday, June 5, 2006

As we begin a new fiscal year here at Nonprofits Assistance Fund, we would like to thank the nonprofits, bank, foundations and individuals who have supported us. We have had an exciting and productive year, with many accomplishments to celebrate.

In our continuing effort to strengthen the operation and mission of nonprofits, we have provided over 5 million dollars in loans to 76 nonprofits in all fields of service. Some new loans for us this year were a working capital loan for Our Saviors Outreach Ministry, a shelter for the homeless in South Minneapolis. We also provided a bridge loan for Uhuru Solutions, an organization comprised of former gang members, who encourage current members to give up their gang activities.

Our training program continues to be a great success.  We presented 55 financial management workshops in Minnesota and beyond, with 1,100 registrants. Thanks to a new partnership with Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, we were able to expand our Financial Management Brown Bag Lunch Series to a monthly offering. This enables us to cover a greater array of helpful topics and reach a broader nonprofit audience.  Check out our events calendar for the next Brown Bag Lunch, held the fourth Wednesday of every month.

Nonprofits Assistance Fund is also proud to announce the 25th birthday of our original loan fund: Minnesota Nonprofits Assistance Fund. It was a quarter of a century ago that MNAF was launched by The Minneapolis Foundation to support Minnesota nonprofits in building strong, healthy communities. We are very pleased to have reached this milestone and look forward to another fruitful year of helping nonprofits thrive.
