Nonprofits Assistance Fund Congratulates Penumbra on its Fiscal Transformation

Published Tuesday, January 22, 2008

At Nonprofits Assistance Fund, one of the most exciting things we see is organizations transforming themselves.  We are proud to support these organizations on their journey to financial health.

Penumbra's transformation is a story of hard work and commitment from everyone in the organization.  We are pleased to see their efforts reap real rewards -- they retired their debt, received a clean audit, and are in the position to launch a capacity building campaign.

According to Kate Barr, executive director of Nonprofits Assistance Fund: "One of the exceptional things about Penumbra was the total commitment of its board and leadership.  They put together a four-year plan and stuck with it, making difficult decisions about things like staff size and seasons. This was a strict fiscal diet and now they're fit."

Sometimes it may seem that an organization's financial struggles always make headlines, but not the story of overcoming these struggles.  So we are pleased that both the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press covered Penumbra's financial re-birth in December.
